Freshie Community Garden

Freshie Community Garden Committee and the current committee names as follows:-

Brief history:

In July 2011 the executive of the Friends of Freshwater Inc. proposed expanding their interests in the Freshwater, Queenscliff and South Curl Curl to include the sponsoring of community activities to promote the feeling of community.

It had been observed that the Crown Road Reserve had been left in a neglected state, with the exception of the Childrens Playground erected by Warringah Council at the Crown Road end of the Reserve which stretched through to Queenscliff Road. An advertisement was placed in the Manly Daily calling on interested members of the public to support the establishment of a community garden. Manly Vale Community Garden provided input and 2 raised garden beds were purchased and installed on Crown Road Reserve. This was the beginnings of the Community Garden.

Warringah Council were approached to support the initiative and at the time were calling for submissions for Community Grants to establish Community Gardens. The Freshie Community Garden submission was successful and $5,000 was provided in August 2012. In October 2012 the Friends of Freshwater Inc. issued another public request for interested community gardeners to assemble at Crown Road Reserve to gauge support for a community garden and elect a Committee whom would prepare a Plan for the proposed Community Garden.
This plan was to be submitted to Warringah Council for approval and included within a Memorandum of Understanding granting the Friends of Freshwater Inc. use of Crown Road Reserve to establish and run a community garden. Council did not accept the full plan but approved the area marked 'C' on the plan comprising approximately 450 sq metres in the centre of the site.
